April 24-28 is Week of the Young Child (WOYC). Child Care Resource & Referral of Southwest Iowa asks southwest Iowa to come together for children. As part of this national celebration, local communities are honoring young children and all those who make a difference in children’s lives.
“All young children need and deserve high-quality experiences that will prepare them for life. here in southwest Iowa, we have a great opportunity to do our part to help young children,” said Beth Walters, local child care consultant for Iowa Child Care Resource and Referral of Southwest Iowa. “Week of the Young Child is a time for us to celebrate young children all around the county.”
The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) sponsors Week of the Young Child. This week is an opportunity for all early childhood programs to hold activities to bring awareness to the needs of young children. Local early childhood centers and home providers are celebrating this week in many different ways. Make sure to ask you your child will be celebrating.
Young children and their families depend on high-quality education and care. This will help children get a great start and bring lasting benefits to Iowa. Week of the Young Child is a time to recognize the importance of early learning and early literacy. It is also a way to celebrate the teachers and policies that bring early childhood education to young children.
Child Care Resource and Referral provides resources, education and advocacy to support quality child care. It is a program of West Central Community Action. Iowa Department of Human Services and local resources provide funding. For more information call 800-945-9778.
